Orhan Özçatalbaş
Dr. Orhan ÖZÇATALBAŞ is a distinguished academic holding multiple key roles at Akdeniz University, Türkiye, serving as the Director of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, and Professor in the Department of Climate Change and Policies. He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture at Çukurova University and later completed his Master's and Doctoral studies there, focusing on agricultural economics. Dr. Özçatalbaş's career highlights include his appointment as an assistant professor at Akdeniz University in 1998 and achieving full professorship in 2011. His primary research is rooted in Agricultural Economics, with a strong current focus on Sustainable Rural Development, Climate Policy, Rural Extension, and the critical role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the Smart Rural Age. Notably, he pursued post-doctoral research in "Horticultural Information System and Management" at the Institute of Horticultural Economics, Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany (1999–2000), where he continued as a visiting scientist on several occasions. Dr. Özçatalbaş is an influential figure in scientific publishing, having authored and co-authored over 100 journal papers, multiple book chapters, and edited volumes, including the IntechOpen book 'Sustainable Rural Development Perspective and Global Challenges' (2023). He also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Rural Tourism and Development (IRTAD). His expertise extends to policy-making as a Member of the Monitoring Committee for the EU IPARD Program Türkiye Managing Authority. In recognition of his impactful work, Dr. Özçatalbaş received the 2021 Scientist of the Year Award in the field of rural development and tourism from the Turkish Nobel Science and Research Center Association. He continues to actively shape the future generation of experts through his teaching and research at Akdeniz University.
