With the need to make scientific research publicly available and support the benefits of open access, more institutions and funders are dedicating resources to assist faculty members and researchers in covering open access publishing fees. Open Access Publishing Fees
IntechOpen is a gold open access publisher, and to make published content permanently available online without restrictions, we apply an open access processing charge, only after the author’s work has been accepted. To learn more about the fees, please consult our Open Access Publishing Fees page.
The first step in obtaining funds for your open access publication begins with your institution or library. IntechOpen’s publishing standards align with most institutional funding programs. Our advice is to petition your institution for help in financing your open access publication.
However, as open access becomes a more frequently chosen publishing option for the dissemination of scientific and scholarly content, in addition to institutions, a growing number of funders are allowing grant funds to cover OA publication costs or have established separate funds for the same purpose.

IntechOpen Waivers and Discounts in Action
Our mission is to support Authors in publishing their research and making an impact within the scientific community. Currently, 22.5% of published Authors receive full waivers*.
Open Science Journals
IntechOpen Journals currently operate under an APC-free model, meaning there will be no Article Processing Charge for accepted manuscripts.
Open Access Books
Who is eligible for a waiver?
Authors without institutional support who are interested in contributing their research findings to IntechOpen’s publications can apply for a waiver, provided that they have no available open access funding. Requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis on a book project level.
Waivers are available on a limited basis and cannot be granted to all requestors. If a waiver is approved, no further waiver requests will be considered for one year.
While providing support and advice to all our international Authors, waiver priority will be given to those Authors who reside in countries classified by the World Bank as low-income economies, early career researchers and underrepresented or emerging disciplines. In this way, we can help ensure equity among researchers.
IntechOpen occasionally partially or fully waives the OA publishing fees for specific book projects based on partnership agreements, subject areas, or other book catalogue-related considerations.
When and How to Apply for a Waiver
To apply for a waiver in open access books (Edited Volumes and Annual Volumes), please make sure to register, submit your chapter proposal, and fill out the Waiver Form available on request.
The approval process is completely independent and does not influence the editorial decision-making process.

Additional Terms
In case of transfers to another publication, any waivers or discounts applied by the first publication are transferable during the manuscript transfer, and authors are clearly informed how this will be handled.
